courtesy of NOAA Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary. The exhibit is a model of the real Salt, considered the Grand Dame of Stellwagen Bank humpback whales. Salt has been seen on Stellwagen Bank every year except one since 1976. She has brought back 14 calves, and those calves have brought back a similar number of grandcalves (and now we even have two Salt great grandcalves). Much has been learned about humpback whale family structure, feeding behavior, migration and biology from Salt. Read more.
