Highfield Hall & Gardens is Seeking a Culinary Director
The Culinary Director works closely with the Program Director, chefs, culinary instructors, and volunteers to orchestrate an entertaining and educational culinary program. Highfield’s culinary program is focused on cultivating excitement about food through sharing creative and useful techniques and embracing the artistry of cooking. Highfield Hall & Gardens is a historic estate and vibrant cultural center surrounded by restored gardens, peaceful walking trails and conservation land.
Reports to: Program Director
Hours: average 16-20 hours per month
Pay: $500 monthly stipend, plus per class compensation ($150 primary chef, $100 host chef)
Duties include but are not limited to:
Programs and Classes
- Planning, coordinating and/or teaching 20-30 culinary classes throughout the year (includes Meet the Chef
series in collaboration with ACF, Farm to Table series, other HH&G Culinary classes for adults) - Preparing recipes and purchasing ingredients
- Scheduling classes in a timely fashion, writing descriptions that are sufficient for publicity purposes
- Arriving on time to work with culinary volunteers to prep for each clas
Kitchen Management
- Maintaining kitchen according to Board of Health Standards
- Monitoring pantry inventory, purchasing kitchen supplies and equipment as needed
- Coordinating cleaning and repairs with maintenance staff
Volunteers - Recruiting and training culinary volunteers in conjunction with Culinary Volunteer Coordinator
- Communicating regularly with the Culinary Volunteer Coordinator and culinary volunteers
Administration - Assisting Program Director with culinary budget development
- Meeting with Program Director regularly
- Submitting invoices including receipts to Program Director for payment
- Developing satisfaction survey with HH&G staff; reviewing and modifying programming as suggested
Qualifications: Current Serve Safe Certification; Proven culinary and/or teaching experience (both preferred); basic word
processing and email skills
