Fairy House Submissions 2026
Our ever-popular biennial installation of whimsical fairy houses will return to the Highfield grounds this summer! Our theme for the 2026 fairy houses will be Celebrations!
Parameters for houses:
- Size: no more than 3 feet in any dimension
- Materials: natural materials only, no plastics. Adhesives may be used to put the house together.
- Reminder: fairy houses will be outside on Highfield’s grounds, exposed to the elements (and potentially human interaction) for 2-3 months. Anticipate and plan for some degradation.
Proposals should include:
- Approximate size of your house
- Materials to be used for house
- Description of house’s appearance
- Any specific site requirements (i.e. needs to be IN a tree, on a log, on the ground)
- A story about the house (1 – 2 short paragraphs.) If selected for display, we may ask for a more (or less) detailed story to print in our Guide.
Houses will be installed on the grounds from late June through at least August 31st. The houses will be spread over Highfield’s grounds this year, but we have not yet identified specific sites yet (hard to do with a foot of snow!) Highfield’s Director of Exhibitions and Interpretation, Joanne Ingersoll, will review proposals, and we’ll be in touch a couple of weeks after March 16th.
