The Words of Katharine Lee Bates interpreted in Fiber and Paint
Clark Gallery
Under the guidance of curator Shawn Nelson, a group of 22 Cape Cod fiber artists and painters worked in pairs to inspire each other in a weaver/painter collaboration of Falmouth native, Katharine Lee Bates’ America the Beautiful. Reinvigorating the poem’s original intent and giving new meaning to Bates’s patriotic lyrics, each pair of painters and weavers chose a line from the song and worked in partnership on its interpretation to produce images that would offer the viewer a new sense of the anthem’s vision and inspiration.
