You may know the honorable Falmouth-born Katharine Lee Bates, author of America the Beautiful but what else do you know about her life? Museums on the Green and Highfield Hall & Gardens are collaborating to commemorate Miss Bates’ life as a professor at Wellesley College, a writer, and a world traveler. The exhibit is timed to coincide with Highfield’s show, America the Beautiful: The Words of Katharine Lee Bates Interpreted in Fiber and Paint. Along with learning about Bates’ childhood and her inspiration for writing “America the Beautiful,” visitors will get a sense of what it was like during the late 1800s through a framework of personal photographs, writings, objects and clothing.
