Admission $10 / $5 members, children free. Highfield Hall & Gardens presents its 11th year of spectacular decorating, seasonal activities and displays during the Holidays at Highfield from November 24 to December 3.  Designer Sandra Cavallo and her talented team transforms the Victorian mansion by masterfully blending old world charm with an over-the-top decorating scheme. The theme at Highfield this year is inspired by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas’ “A Child’s Christmas in Wales.”  With quotes from this classic tale located throughout the house, the mansion evokes the nostalgia of Christmas past interwoven with a clever contemporary twist.  Designer Cavallos’ take on the story includes fire hoses and fireman boots wrapped around the grand staircase, an abundance of snowballs, and a warm hearth in the dining room fashioned with a fully set table, velvet curtains and a fabulous holiday tree.

The event includes cookies served in an Olde English “pub,” a popular gift gallery of work by regional artists and craftspeople, the Any Soldier letter writing room, model trains, a family crafts area, seasonal music, Santa on Saturdays, and more.  New this year is a fully appointed to-scale dollhouse model of the West Falmouth 1870s Captain Caleb Hamblin’s House, which is sure to be a hit. In a busy season full of things to do, Highfield Hall & Gardens is worth the stop.
