Join us  this summer for some traditional bluegrass with The Sandy Ridge Boys & special guest Bobby Britt!

Music Under the Tent Series

Founded in 2014, this group brings together a wide background of musical experiences and have become popular with fans of all ages. Following in the footsteps of the masters, The Sandy Ridge Boys play traditional, straight-ahead bluegrass as well as tunes from early country music, along with interesting twists on some familiar old favorites. With the standard assemblage of instruments, featuring banjo, guitar, mandolin, and bass, they recreate the sounds of Flatt & Scruggs, The Stanley Brothers, Jimmy Martin, and even Chuck Berry, as well as many of the contemporary bluegrass bands playing today. The boys will entertain you with their innovative arrangements and songs, as well as their between-song banter.

Local favorites, The Barking Claw food cart and Aquatics Brewing Company will serve food and beer as part of this festive evening. Come savor a lobster roll and a local brew while enjoying this rollicking fun concert of seafaring melody and verse!

THE BAND:

Our fearless leader, was born in Massachusetts, but spent most of his adult life in Virginia. His love of Bluegrass music was inspired by close friends and his many years living in Virginia. He was also inspired by Guitar Legends and singers, Tony Rice, Rick Faris, Ben Clark, Greg Blake, and Josh Williams.

Originally from Newtown CT, has been playing violin since age five, and at age fourteen decided to dive into the world of bluegrass. She has performed on the main stages of bluegrass festivals such as Grey Fox, Ossipee, Joe Val, and Freshgrass. Sofía attended the Berklee College of Music where she performed as part of the American Roots Music Program.

Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia and raised in Ohio, grew up with a mandolin in one hand and a banjo in the other playing bluegrass and classic country music with his father. Micah a multi- instrumentalist,  has had stints as a semi-professional actor and competed in ballet, tap, jazz and ballroom dancing. He studied Music Production and Engineering at Berklee College of Music.

Originally from Baltimore Maryland and also a graduate of Berklee,  is well known in Boston Music Circles and is one of the most talented bass players in the area.  He has played with great groups, like the Spring Hill Rounders, the Beantown Buckaroos, Honky Tonk  Masquerade, the Demolition String Band, Odessa Rose,  & The Smalls. In addition to his musical talent he brings great vocals and his extensive knowledge of bluegrass and country music. And we feature his song “Swimming Hole” in our sets.

A native of New York is our dancing banjo player, is known for his hot licks and cool demeanor. His major banjo influences are Earl Scruggs (of course), Eddie Adcock, and Lew London. When he’s not picking banjo at the usual places in Boston, you will probably find him Texas Two-Stepping to some country band.

Special Guest Bobby Britt, a Grammy nominated recording artist, was born and raised in Chapel Hill NC, and started playing fiddle at age five. In high school, Bobby became fascinated with all styles of music, from Miles Davis, to Celtic music, to American roots music. At age 18, he moved to Colorado to join Rounder Recording Artists and internationally acclaimed bluegrass band Open Road. Later, he joined Asheville based Town Mountain, and has been touring with them ever since. Bobby recently graduated from Berklee College of Music Roots Program, winning the departments largest scholarship, the Fletcher Bright Award.
He also tours the globe with members of Della Mae, Berklee professor Joe K. Walsh, and David Grisman Quintet veteran Grant Gordy. Bobby has played with all of the heavy hitters in the genre, and was the winner of the IBMA Momentum Performer of the Year award. While Bobby’s role for most of his musical life has been about supporting the musical vision of artists that he loves, he has recently completed his first solo album, Alaya, with Andrew Marlin, Emily Frantz of Mandolin Orange, as well as Josh Oliver and Allison de Groot. This marks an exciting new era of composing performing and recording exclusively as Bobby Britt. He is touring this summer supporting this forthcoming album.
