The Rum Soaked Crooks played to a sell-out crowd in 2019, they’re back again with special guest Jon Campbell!
Music Under the Tent Series
Tom Goux, Dan Lanier, and Jacek Sulanowski, known collectively as “The Rum-Soaked Crooks,” present programs laden with musical treasures culled from remote ports of the World and New England’s sandy shores. The local group are a fully equipped band including guitar, concertina, accordion, fiddle, and other instruments. The Crooks deliver salty songs, diaphanous ditties and roiling recitations collected from many ports of call, past and present. Their repertoire spans three centuries of seafaring melody and verse, featuring an exceptional sampling of Cape and Islands sea songs and poetry. The Crooks have shared their songs and stories at festivals and maritime events across the country and in Europe, and have recorded on the Smithsonian-Folkways and Whaling City Sound labels. The Crook’s music has delighted audiences in New England and beyond in festival and concert settings, coffee house and folk music societies and, most memorably, onboard the notable historic vessels U.S. Frigate Constitution , Schooner Ernestina, Charles Morgan, Mayflower, Balclutha and Bark Elissa. We are excited to welcome back them back to Highfield!
They are joined by special guest musician, Jon Campbell. The days of sail are long over but life along the Waterfront in New England continues on. These days it’s more about commercial fishing, tourists, regional cuisine, the eternal cranky Yankee, and an oyster bar next to every Starbucks. Jon’s music addresses life as we live it along the coast. With songs sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, a listener gets a look inside this world from someone who happily resides there. Jon has performed from the Canadian Maritimes to Kodiak Alaska. His songs have been performed and recorded by musicians in the US and Ireland. He has recorded numerous albums with other musicians and as a solo artist. Jon modestly opines: “When you live in an interesting place where interesting people are doing interesting things, all you have to do is make it rhyme.”
