Led by local author and award-winning poet Melissa Goodwin, this experiential writing class is for anyone interested in writing poetry, whether your exploration is new or has been underway for years.

In this class, we’ll explore a variety of techniques and tools to amplify the power of your authentic poetic voice. It builds on the Finding Your Authentic Poetic Voice workshop, but can be taken on a stand-alone basis. We’ll have fun with exercises that use building blocks such as imagery, metaphor, simile, alliteration, rhyming, and non-rhyming schemes to enhance the impact of our poems. We’ll also allow time for reading poetry aloud (by choice), to experience the magnified power of adding the tone, cadence, and inflection of the speaking voice to the written words. Bring your notebook, journal, works-in-progress, ideas, and imagination for a fun and creative class.

Melissa Goodwin is an author, award-winning poet and photographer, yoga teacher, and caregiver living on Cape Cod. Her first poetry chapbook, The Brook in the Woods Behind Our Old House, was published in 2023. A collection of her poems was a top-five winner in the 2022 Oprelle Masters Poetry Competition, while individual poems earned awards and honors in the Bigger Than Me and Coming Home competitions, Prime 53 Poetry Competition, and the Vivian Shipley Award. Goodwin is also the author of three novels and a self-illustrated poem-picture book. She has taught yoga for nearly 20 years and is a full-time caregiver to her husband, who has Parkinson’s Disease.
