Join us for our annual lecture series collaborating with and showcasing the science work of institutions of the Falmouth area, Join us for our annual lecture series collaborating with and showcasing the science work of institutions of the Falmouth area, providing interesting and educational presentations for the public. The theme for this year is exploring local environmental issues: what is being done in the ponds, streams, and marshes in the area to preserve our natural resources that are part of the identity of Cape Cod.

The Cape is home to a vibrant scientific community conducting meaningful environmental work with potentially wide impact. We are pleased to invite them to share their work with us. Chris Neill from Woodwell Climate Reserach Center will talk about the science behind promoting backyard biodiversity.

Chris is a Senior Scientist at the Woodwell Climate Research Center and former Director of the Ecosystems Center of the Marine Biological Laboratory. He studies the consequences of deforestation and expanding agriculture in the Brazilian Amazon, and works with land managers on biodiversity and management and restoration of grasslands, shrublands and wetlands in coastal Massachusetts.

Chris collaborates on a national project that examines how the way homeowners manage their residential properties influences the ecological functions in yards and neighborhoods. He also oversees laboratory analyses for the Buzzards Bay Coalition’s Baywatchers program that has been monitoring changes to water quality in Buzzards Bay estuaries since 1992.
