Week 2:

“LEAVE THE LEAVES”

While we all believe it is better to “leave the leaves” in the garden for their compost and nutrient value we don’t always appreciate where they end up. In my garden, leaving the leaves very often means moving the leaves. I move leaves from gardens around the house and spread them in shrub borders and back beds of the garden.

I have found that moving or removing leaves when they are still moist from rain to be most efficient. Moist leaves cling together in clumps. Removing leaves from those hard to reach areas is much easier when they are wet and they don’t blow around when you are gathering them up.

Do you leave the leaves?
