FOLLOW-UP WATERING FOR NEW PLANTINGS

Garden centers and nurseries across the nation have seen record-breaking sales this spring as people turn to gardening and nature as a respite from the ongoing pandemic.

Whether planting annuals, perennials, vegetables, trees or shrubs, it is important to remember that the key to successful gardening is follow-up watering. We must not rely on Mother Nature or the lawn irrigation system to keep give new plantings the moisture they need!

Proper watering involves applying a deep drink at the base of the plant every three to four days. Doing this has an added benefit. It gives us the opportunity to observe closely the magic of plant growth and will keep us in touch with nature as we return to whatever normal may be.
