Ruth Clark: 1929 – 2017

Highfield Hall & Gardens and our entire community lost a true friend and visionary with the death of Ruth Clark on Sunday, April 23, 2017.

Ruth was always a beacon of strength and inspiration during the entire restoration of Highfield Hall & Gardens. She was appointed to the Executive Committee of Highfield Hall & Gardens on November 29, 2001. After serving on the Board of Trustees for the maximum term of 9 years, she was elected Trustee Emeritus. Ruth’s tenacity and “can do” spirit played a key role in bringing Highfield Hall & Gardens from a dream, to a fully restored estate and community resource. She and her husband, James M. Clark, received the “Outstanding Philanthropist” award from Philanthropy Partners of Cape Cod in honor of their commitment to the Cape through their support of WHOI, Cape Cod Health Care, and Highfield Hall & Gardens. The Clark Gallery and The Clark Library at Highfield Hall will forever honor the Clark’s leadership role in restoring Highfield Hall & Gardens.

In 2016 Highfield paid tribute to Ruth and Jim during Highfield Celebrates! 10 Years of Open Doors fundraiser. For the event a short video documenting Ruth’s dedication to and love for Highfield was presented. I invite you to take a moment and watch as Ruth tells her Highfield story. Click here to view.

On Saturday, June 17th there will be a memorial service at the Church of the Messiah in Woods Hole, MA, followed by a reception at Highfield Hall & Gardens.
